A Glimpse Inside Enrique

When his self-titled album, Enrique, debuted in 1999, Enrique Iglesias swooped on to the American music scene with hits like "Bailamos" and "Be With You." Now, "Hero," the first single from the new record Escape, is burning up the charts. You've no doubt seen the oh-so-hot video, featuring Jennifer Love Hewitt, on MTV and VH1, and drooled over super-sexy Enrique crooning the heart-felt love song.

Unlike his previous efforts, Escape, which was released at the end of October, contains songs that span a wide range of genres. Here, Enrique decided to rock the house a little more with loud, upbeat tunes that aren't typical "Latin" fare. He also wanted his own preferences and influences to be reflected and, since he's one of the few pop artists who writes most of his own songs, well, let's just say you should get ready for a whole new sound this time 'round.

Recently, Enrique took time out to answer a few questions for us. Here's what he had to say;
Teenage Kicks: What did you do differently, on Escape from your last album?
Enrique Iglesias: I didn't really know where this album was going to go. I wasn't thinking about trends; it was rather spontaneous. One of the songs, "Don't Turn Off the Lights," really changed the direction * it was rock n' roll, big and intense. A song like "Hero" takes a different approach * it's more like a whisper. I just hope that people can listen to these songs while driving their car and going nuts, beating on the wheel, singing out loud and having fun.
Teenage Kicks: Which of the new songs are your favourites to perform?
Enrique Iglesias: I like performing "Don't Turn Off the Lights" and "Love 4 Fun" because they are uplifting songs and the band sounds awesome on themare? How they always tease the girls they love most?" There's more. "I think he's attractive," she reflects. "The space in his teeth. I love that. I always think that a space in the middle of someone's teeth- my father has it- is a sign of intelligence."
