Choosing Fonts:

When planning which font to use for the web the following should be taken into careful consideration.

  • Badly chosen type can detract from the words it represents.
  • Well chosen type can underline and enhance the meaning of the content.
  • Think about the readability of the font.
  • Size 2 fonts are ideal for web pages.
  • Typography is used for identity
  • Bold, rounded faces need more space, but most headline faces are fairly compact to allow meaningful headlines.
  • When letters are entirely uppercase with a lot of vertical stress and in a narrow condensed light typeface. Add extra space around the letters in words.
  • Serif fonts, like Times New Roman are more traditional. They have short finishing strokes so it makes it easier to read.
  • San Serif fonts, like Arial are more modern. They have abrupt endings and are upward flowing.

Page Layout:

  • Don't put large blocks of text on a page. The reader will find it a) boring and b) hard to read.
  • Use bullet points instead or break up the text using columns or pictures. It will make the reader more interested in the content.
  • Keep the design of your pages similar to each other. Use a template for consistency.
